Kelela op Lowlands 2023 was een lichtelijk vervreemdende ervaring. Haar futuristische, enerzijds abstracte en anderzijds met Londense clubklanken ingekleurde r&b klonk hier zonder enige opsmuk. Toffe outfit, maar verder geen visuals en geen dj. Alleen Kelela en haar stem, de rest op band (of, waarschijnlijker, harddisk of USB-stick). Een heel contrast waarschijnlijk met de beide concerten in de New Yorkse Blue Note-jazzcub waaruit dit als ‘unplugged’ aangekondigde album is opgetrokken.
